I decided to work with Jennie because, since the pandemic, I’ve had fewer opportunities to use English regularly and wanted to maintain my fluency. More specifically, I aimed to improve my public speaking skills and gain a deeper understanding of native English in all its nuances and variations.
One of the most helpful — though admittedly challenging — aspects of the lessons has been learning how native speakers contract words and shift intonation within a sentence, often depending on their regional background. For someone like me, who has mainly used English in a Continental European professional context — that is, non-native English spoken in formal or workplace settings — this requires a genuine shift in perspective. Working with Jennie has helped me speak in a more natural and fluid way, bringing me closer to how English is actually used in real-life situations. On Tuesday, April 29, I had the pleasure of attending Jennie’s talk online. I had also attended her talk in person at IATEFL earlier this month. The online session was a helpful opportunity to refresh my memory, as it was difficult to recall the details clearly after attending so many presentations at the conference.
Jennie discussed three practices to help students improve their pronunciation. The first was catenation, also known as linking. In English, when a word ending in a consonant is followed by another beginning with a vowel, the two words are blended as if they were one—for example, ‘speak out’ is pronounced as ‘spea kout’. The second practice was the elision of the superlative /t/, as in the /t/ being dropped in phrases like ‘least likely’ and ‘most surprising’. These two pronunciation features support the third practice, which is listening.
In the third activity, students first listen to a short speech (in her example, a segment from a TED Talk), then note down key words, and finally review and revise what they wrote. They then try to write down what they heard in their own words. At first glance, this might not seem directly related to pronunciation, but I believe it is deeply connected. For EFL learners, understanding spoken language depends on practical pronunciation awareness, and such awareness can be enhanced by listening to natural speech.
Jennie’s three practices are practical and easy to implement in class. I am sure that many teachers will want to apply them right away. Moreover, EFL learners themselves can make good use of them to improve their English pronunciation effectively.

I really enjoyed Jennie’s 5-day Pronunciation Challenge!
English is not my first language and I’ve lived in more than one English-speaking country. Even though I would say my English is now at a high professional level, there is always room for improvement, right? 😉
My favourite (and a very cringy at first) task was to record myrself speaking English and then listen back to that recording.
It helped me a lot in improving my pronunciation, as I realised that all I needed was - to slow down- speak more slowly and articulate clearly! 😃

I decided to work with Jennie to practice for my CPE speaking exam and I was more than satisfied! Jennie is very patient and professional, she's able to identify the aspects that need more work and practice without making the student feel discouraged. Her suggestions go straight to the point, but she always finds the best and easiest way to help one understand the problem, and solve it. She helped me not only with the language, but with my attitude towards the exam too: I felt more confident after a single session with her and was able to face that challenge conscious of my strengths and free from the fear of my weaknesses.

I’ve worked with Jennie for more than three months in preparation for my C1 Advanced exam. Not only has she helped me improve my English speaking and writing skills (also she went to extreme length to solve my grammar questions!) but she has given me a lot of encouragement and support along the way, especially in my moments of struggle. She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and this has been invaluable to me. I decided to work with Jennie to be able to improve my English from an accent perspective, I realised that after 5 years living in Uk , my English was still very poor from a phonetic perspective and I needed help because all my friends weren’t able to correct my pronunciation.
I can say that after two years with Jennie my English definitely improved and I was able to speak at a conference in front of 100 people in English without hesitation.
I will definitely recommend Jennie to anybody, even if you are living abroad or you are living in your own country, the level of the lessons are very high and she can teach knowledge that I never found inside a normal English school.

I came across some of Jennie's videos here on Linkedin and immediately felt very much in tune with her and what she described as the main challenge of non-native teachers: the impostor syndrome. I therefore decided to take courage and invest in myself to gain more confidence in my abilities.
I have decided to work with Jennie because she immediately inspired me with confidence and I felt a great connection with her.
Her classes are always very interesting and customised to your needs and interests. The lessons are highly communicative, leaving you plenty of room to converse on the most varied topics of your interest. Teaching English as a non-native means to constantly second guess your words and thoughts. It can be rough, and from time to time you will find yourself in need of a haven. Jennie offers you that. In her lessons you will find a safe, nice and fun environment where you are allowed to experiment with the language, make mistakes and constantly learn from them. Each lesson is built around a topic - nothing like those mouldy books we inflict upon our students - and it is undeniably engaging.

Being a language teacher, it is essential for me to engage with native speakers as much as I can. Jennie has an extra gear, because she has plenty of experience in the field of teaching and she is able to give a lot of useful advice on how to build a lesson in a more British way - more creative and interactive than the usual Italian lesson. I decided to work with Jennie because, since the pandemic, I’ve had fewer opportunities to use English regularly and wanted to maintain my fluency. More specifically, I aimed to improve my public speaking skills and gain a deeper understanding of native English in all its nuances and variations.

On Tuesday, April 29, I had the pleasure of attending Jennie’s talk online. I had also attended her talk in person at IATEFL earlier this month. The online session was a helpful opportunity to refresh my memory, as it was difficult to recall the details clearly after attending so many presentations at the conference.
Jennie discussed three practices to help students improve their pronunciation. The first was catenation, also known as linking. In English, when a word ending in a consonant is followed by another beginning with a vowel, the two words are blended as if they were one—for example, ‘speak out’ is pronounced as ‘spea kout’. The second practice was the elision of the superlative /t/, as in the /t/ being dropped in phrases like ‘least likely’ and ‘most surprising’. These two pronunciation features support the third practice, which is listening.
In the third activity, students first listen to a short speech (in her example, a segment from a TED Talk), then note down key words, and finally review and revise what they wrote. They then try to write down what they heard in their own words. At first glance, this might not seem directly related to pronunciation, but I believe it is deeply connected. For EFL learners, understanding spoken language depends on practical pronunciation awareness, and such awareness can be enhanced by listening to natural speech.

English is not my first language and I’ve lived in more than one English-speaking country. Even though I would say my English is now at a high professional level, there is always room for improvement, right? 😉
My favourite (and a very cringy at first) task was to record myrself speaking English and then listen back to that recording.
It helped me a lot in improving my pronunciation, as I realised that all I needed was - to slow down- speak more slowly and articulate clearly! 😃

Jennie is very patient and professional, she's able to identify the aspects that need more work and practice without making the student feel discouraged. I’ve worked with Jennie for more than three months in preparation for my C1 Advanced exam. Not only has she helped me improve my English speaking and writing skills (also she went to extreme length to solve my grammar questions!) but she has given me a lot of encouragement and support along the way, especially in my moments of struggle. I decided to work with Jennie to be able to improve my English from an accent perspective, I realised that after 5 years living in Uk , my English was still very poor from a phonetic perspective and I needed help because all my friends weren’t able to correct my pronunciation.
I can say that after two years with Jennie my English definitely improved and I was able to speak at a conference in front of 100 people in English without hesitation.
I will definitely recommend Jennie to anybody, even if you are living abroad or you are living in your own country, the level of the lessons are very high and she can teach knowledge that I never found inside a normal English school.

Jennie was really precious for my preparation for the CPE. She gave me great tips and also corrected my essays. Overall, she managed to project a warm atmosphere through the screen while remaining professional. I highly recommend her lessons because she is not only a native speaker but also a well-prepared one (which is not something to be taken for granted).

Jennie has an extra gear, because she has plenty of experience in the field of teaching and she is able to give a lot of useful advice on how to build a lesson in a more British way - more creative and interactive than the usual Italian lesson. I was looking for someone who could clear up some doubts about classroom English and Jennie, in four lessons only, was able to provide all the information I needed.
